Jim Corbett National park came into being in 1936 as Hailey National Park, named after Sir Malcolm Hailey, the then Governor of the United Provinces. Later it was renamed in 1957 after the famous hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett, who played a crucial role in its establishment. Sprawled in an area of 520 square kilometres, well known for its diversified flora and fauna.


Prevalent wildlife- Bengal tiger, Indian elephant, Leopard, Indian wild boar, chital, Sambar deer, Goral, Sambar deer etc.

The Jim Corbett National park is divided into 6 Zones, Namely-


Bijrani Zone-

  • A popular tourist destination known for its expansive grasslands, dense forests and riverbeds. Located in the Northern part of Corbett National park.
  • Wildlife- Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, deer, wild boars, and a variety of bird species are spotted easily.
  • Activities- Jeep safari and bird watching activities are famous among tourists..
  • Ideal time to visit- From mid-October to mid-June.
  • Situated on the southern part of Corbett National park featuring a mix of beautiful landscapes, river beds and forests.

Jhirna Zone-

    • Wildlife- Animals such as sloth bears, leopards, tigers, as well as elephants and deer, are commonly sighted.
    • Activities- It is a paradise for bird watchers, consisting of a variety of bird species, such as peacocks, vultures, kingfishers, and other regional and migratory birds.
    • Ideal time to visit- Open throughout the year but for wildlife sightings the best time is from November to June.
